Prodigious Podebrady Performances

Team USA sent 15 athletes to Podebrady for the 94th edition of their Race Walking event. The result was excellence from almost every athlete, 2 new US Records and a Team Bronze in the Women’s event.

Starting the day off were Men in the U20 10 km. A field of 28 started. Gael Plasencia finished 16th in 47:42, after serving 1 minute in the Penalty Zone for 3 fouls. Ian Britt followed in 20th with a 47:57 and Matthew Wommacker rounded out the scoring with his 24th placing in 52:18.

The Women were next in the Half Marathon field of 57 starters. Lauren Harris walked with the chase pack for the majority of the race to finish 4th in 1:36:04, setting her 5th US record of the year. Ruby Ray was 25th in 1:48:06, Izabelle Trefts 30th in 1:51:49, Lydia McGranahan 32nd in 1:53:49, Katie Smith 40th in 2:11:35, and Erin Taylor-Talcott was a DNF at 7km.

The Men wrapped up the day in their Half Marathon, with 82 starting the race. Nick Christie lead the men, finishing 20th in 1:28:35 and setting a US Record. Emmanuel Corvera and Jordan Crawford walked together for much of the race, coming in 35th & 41st in 1:32:00 and 1:33:33. AJ Gruttadauro was 57th in 1:52.05, John Li was 58th in 1:54:13 which included 2 minutes in the Penalty Zone for 3 fouls, and Pablo Gomez was DQ’d late in the race.
